ETEC 551 - Education and the Internet
A review of the Quikitech Website
While taking ETEC 551 I also helped my wife get some professional development points by working with her on an online course. It was provided by a website called Quikitech.com. I liked the organization of the website and the video tutorials that accompanied each lesson. This document gives a summary of my findings and the components I found most effective. I also had some interest in the structure of the website. There were safeguards coded into the website that keeps the user on track and honest about completing each assignment. The user is prevented from continuing to the next lesson if the assignments are not turned in. I would recommend this site to any educator looking to pick up more credits and learn some new technology tricks.
Online Teaching Survival Guide Review
Another valuable assignment in ETEC 551 was to review a book on technology. I chose a book by Judith V. Boettcher and Rita-Marie Conrad. It was called The Online Teaching Survival Guide: Simple and Practical Pedagogical Tips . I was intrigued by the title of the book and wanted to see why it was labeled a survival guide. Almost immediately the structure of the book read like a survival guide. There was very little flowery language or anecdotal information about how to approach online teaching. The book is a great guide for creating an online course with a 4 phased approach to instruction. It inlcudes some step by step directions for working with an online course and even breaks up the lessons in terms of the weeks that make up the course.
